CRUSENBERRY 2005 REUNION

The 5th. Annual Crusenberry Reunion went well again this year with 75 in attendance.  Everyone enjoyed a day of Karaoke singing, hosted by my husband David Shirks, played horseshoes, got caught up on family news, met some for the first time, and last but not least enjoyed all the great food, some of which was grown in their own gardens.

The oldest woman prize went to my aunt Geneva Crusenberry, age 88, Wife of Roy Crusenberry.

The oldest man prize went to Letcher Coldwell, who is 81 years old. He is the husband of Nettie, whose mother was Louisa Crusenberry.

The youngest boy prize went to Mason Taylor, grandson of Veda Crusenberry, Ely.  Veda is the daughter of Clifford Crusenberry.

The youngest girl prize went to Mary Geiser, granddaughter of Lola Ridner, Lola is the daughter of Nettie Coldwell.

The prize for coming the most miles went to Don and Melissa Maness Curtis of Fishers, Indiana.  They barely beat out my son, Jeff Berry and granddaughter Samantha from Indianapolis, Indiana.

Door prize went to Ginger Robbins Lawson, daughter of Barbara Crusenberry-Jessee.  Thanks to Ginger we now have a new Crusenberry banner.

Thanks goes to Robert “Bob” Maness, son of Louisa Crusenberry, for the speech he made, and for being the first to donate to the reunion fund.  Thanks also to all who donated, I certainly appreciate it.

All attending were descendants of Benjamin Franklin Crusenberry and Nancy Jane Burgan Crusenberry.  They raised their family here in Lee County, Virginia.   Each year descendant’s from their son’s William L., James E., and Robert E. Lee have been present.  This year the majority were descendants of Robert E. Lee Crusenberry.

We missed all those who couldn’t be with us this year.

Kenneth Crusenberry of Avon, Indiana, son of Jasper Crusenberry couldn’t make it this year because of just having major by-pass surgery.

I want to thank all those who have never missed attending our reunion,

Your presence is greatly appreciated.

All the local kinfolk who didn’t make an effort to attend sure missed a great time.  I certainly hope they come out next year to our 6th. Annual Crusenberry reunion on August 12th. 2006.

Remember our reunion is always held on the 2nd Saturday in August.

We also enjoyed having several visitors this year.  You are always welcome to attend.  I hope to see everyone again next year.  If you have any new ideas for our reunion, please feel free to contact me at:  bdshirks@localnet.com  or Rt 4 Box 4359 Jonesville, VA 24263.

Host, Barbara Crusenberry-Shirks
